the big three aims Georges clemenceau french security - germany had invaded france twice in 50 years, germany also had a larger population than france, more natural resources and industry. and as there was no fighting on german soil it gave germany potential to recover quickly and become a threat again revenge - the french wanted to punish germany for the damage to northern france, this was reinforced by public opinion reparations- 2 reasons for wanting reparations no.1=to weaken germany financially (french security) no. 2=reparations were needed to rebuild destruction move franco german border back to the rhine- the large river would form a much easier to protect border and help achieve french security
