Tekeze HEP project aims to construct the highest dam of its type in Africa It is being built on the Tekeze River The Tekeze is over 600km long and the dam will hold 9 billion meters cubed of water that will be used to irrigate 60,000 hectares of land Cost $224 million It will supply electricity to Ethiopia's national grid as well as being sold to neighbouring countries to earn foreign currency Environmental Impacts: Holds 9 billion meters cubed of water that will be used to irrigate 60,000 hectares of land Reduced CO2 emissions as its a renewable source of energy Social Impacts:Will supply electricity to Ethiopia's national grid and will provide 300 megawatts of electricityEconomic Impacts: Costs $224 million Excess electricity is sold to neighbouring countries to earn foreign currency
