DIGITAL INDIA
What is the initiative? it is project to convert indian demography into using internet Very broad term which can cover e-services such as agro, knowledge apps Providing faster internet to rural areas
Extra info: e-Kranti: this service aims to deliver electronic services to people which deals with health, education, farmers, justice, security and financial inclusion. Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attendance System MyGov.in is a website launched by the government for a 2-way communication between citizens and the government.
Salient Points:Infrastructure spending : High speed internet, bank accounts for everyone(jan dan yojana).Governance and services: Government services will be available online where citizens will be ensured easy access to it. Transactions will be made easy through electronic medium. Digital empowerment of citizens: This is one of the most important factor of the Digital India initiative to provide universal digital literacy and make digital sources easily accessible. The services are also provided in Indian languages for active participation.
Suggestions/challenges Though the initiative can make huge increase in production and development, infrastructural building will cost huge amount. need to build effective economic models(ppp etc) to solve this problem. financial inclusioin of the people in system as well as digital literacy schemes have to put in proper place to effectively use the tools.
Net Nuetrality
What are the issueshttp://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-opinion/benign-gatekeeper-not-the-solution/article7699613.ec... Need to check whether any regulation is necessary as internet is a unregulated commodity. two ways of breaking neutrality : providing services to users based on company payment(eg : net speed for certain sites) free access to internet of some sites(internet.org - reliance - facebook)
Who controls it?Governement,TRAI rules on the functioning and to implement any changes.
The world:US: U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruled in favor of net neutrality.Netherland and chile have acted a net nuetrality law. Most of the countries do not have any law right now regarding this and companies usually change due to public outcry.
Suggestions to solve : In india, with the advent of social media this has become an important part of public discussion. It is better to either have a status quo on the issue or implement a better law in favour of net nuetrality. Since to go hand in hand with digital india initiative ,this can hamper budding startups in tech.
