Date : Oct.21.15Question : How might parents and teachers make use of what was demonstrated in Pygmalion in the classroom model ? The second types of self-fulling prophecies is imposed by one person on another. The result from the research, conducted by Robert Rosenthal and Lenore Jacobson in Pygmalion in the classroom, indicated that the change in the teacher expectation had led to the actual change in the performance of the selected children in the experience. Moreover, it indicated that the children did better, not because they were intelligent, but because they learned that their teachers believed that they could. The application of the experiment is worth attention by most teachers and children's parents. In other words, teachers might apply the second types of self-fulfilling prophecies, written in Pygmalion in the classroom, into their was of building expectancy effects on their students; meanwhile, parents and guardians possibly imply the theory in their parenting styles. For one thing, the implication of the second type of self-fulfilling prophecies is useful for teachers to correct their expectancy effects towards their students. For examples, if the teacher overestimates a student's academic competence on tests or homework, he or she would have the propensity to underestimate on identical work produced by a student whose academic performance is weaker. It is recommended that teachers should simply adopt the idea of high expectations for all students; consequently, it can work at raising students' achievements and motivate them. Another potential is for the use of parents who want to correct their parenting styles. This could apply in inactive parenting styles whew parents are less likely to get involved in their child's development. In the family where inactive parenting styles presents, children are predisposed to be less motivated and less independent. By applying the second type of self-fulfilling prophecies, parents are getting involved with their children by imposing their expectations on their children. In other words, parents want to let their kids know that they believe in their children's ability to reach the target; furthermore, they vicariously motivate their kinds to take control over their self decision.
