Enzymes: Active Site

A specific r[blank_start]egion[blank_end] of the [blank_start]enzyme[blank_end] which is functional is known as the active [blank_start]site[blank_end]; this is made up of a relatively small number of [blank_start]amino[blank_end] acids

The active site forms a [blank_start]depression[blank_end] within the much larger [blank_start]enzyme[blank_end] molecule

S[blank_start]ubstrate[blank_end] fits neatly into this d[blank_start]epression[blank_end] and forms an e[blank_start]nzyme[blank_end]-s[blank_start]ubstrate[blank_end] complex

The [blank_start]substrate[blank_end] molecule is held within the active site by [blank_start]temporary[blank_end] bonds between certain [blank_start]amino[blank_end] acids of the active site and [blank_start]groups[blank_end] on the substrate molecule
