Contains most of cytoplasm and other organelles  Contain Nissl bodies and neurofibrils  Contained within the plasma membrane

Dendrites

Thin, branching extensions; tree like Receive impulses from adjacent neurons Contained within the plasma membrane Conducts impulse toward cell body

Axon

AKA: Nerve Fiber Long tube that transmits message long distances Contained within the plasma membrane  Conducts impulse away from cell body Can be wrapped with Schwann cells or oligodendrocytes  Can be myelinated or not
