This first key screenshot shows the image of an old book. The shot used is a close up, therefore we can see the book in great detail but nothing else. The image of the book is in clear focus, however, whatever is behind the book has been blurred out as for this shot, the book is the only significant and important image to be seen. In this screenshot, important information is written in the low key lighting which this book produces - it gives the name of the production company which is 'New Line Cinema'. The colour of the font has been used to stand out against the background, as white and black are contrasting colours which means that this will get the attention of the audience.
The next key screenshot is a more solemn image. It seems that the page of the book in the first image has been turned to display an image of a pair of hands, but they look as if they belong to the antagonist of this film. They are discoloured and bent which portrays a creepy image to the opening of this film, even though they are just a drawing.Another important bit of information is shown on this screenshot, once again white font is used against a low key background. The producers name - David Fincher is shown on this screenshot and this notifies the audience on who made this film.
The third screenshot is showing an image of a real hand holding a razor blade. Even though in this screenshot there is no writing, the image speaks for itself. The image is more gory than the first two as the hand holding this razor blade is cutting the skin of his finger which conveys that there is going to be some sort of violence or disturbing content that is going to be displayed in this film. The nails on the hand, and the hand in general look dirty and unhygienic, and as the shot used here is an extreme close up, it leaves the audience guessing who's hand this is and why they are harming them self in this way.
This screenshot shows more colour than the previous screenshots, however again the white writing used is on a dark low key lighting background. The style of font which has been chosen to display the title of the film 'Se7en' and the rest of the information which has been shown in previous screenshots looks uneven and jagged and this portrays a horror/ thriller type feel to the audience. The object on the right seems to appear to be a cigar which has been lit and not smoked a lot which shows that there is a person in the room at that moment, even though they have not been shown yet which causes anticipation to build up in the audience.
In this screenshot, there is more high key lighting used. Another image of a hand is shown, which could be the same hand as seen in screenshot 3, however, it could be different. On the thumb, a dirty plaster or bandage has been stuck on which indicates some sort of injury. The index finger is touching a small passport size image, which us as an audience cannot see as the image is dark and it is hard to work out what is actually there. It seems that the same book has made an appearance on screenshot 5, but on a different page and there is a list of names of some sort in unreadable writing. Underneath the book, on the floor there are masses of letters and other objects which emphasises more on the fact that the characters of this film are messy, dirty and unhygienic.
Pie de foto: : Image on the right of the second row.
The casting (main characters) are displayed in the white font again, against low key lighting, beneath the image of a drawing of a male. The drawing is in great detail, however, someone has the pen/ pencil used to draw this image in their hands, and is crossing the eyes of this person out. This conveys a dark image to the audience and they will want to find out why this images eyes are being crossed out, and who they are being crossed out by. High key lighting, maybe a lamp, has been used to shine on the image of the unknown male to emphasise this person and what is happening to them is important and significant.
In this screenshot, it is clear to see that the hand in this close up shot is the same hand which was used in screenshot 5, as this hand has the same plaster on the thumb. He is picking up something that appears to have sharp objects stuck in it, maybe pins, and this could indicate how he has got this injury.Different style font has been used to show different things in this screenshot, and the white font is not against low key lighting as it had been in the previous screenshots. The close up of this camera shot shows the audience in more depth that this person is dirty due to the uncleanliness of the hands.
This shows the hand that we have seen in the previous shots, but this time it is not important as it has been blurred out. The hand is sewing pages with writing on them together with thread and a needle, which in screenshot 7 we saw him getting the needle to prepare to sew what he is. These pages could be from the same book that has been featured throughout these key screenshots, which could suggest that this book is very important and of a high significance to the whole film.
The final image is of some writing that looks as if it has been printed, not handwritten as it had been in all of the previous screenshots displaying writing. The words are upside down and read 'IN GOD WE' and after this word, the others are cut off.On the 'O' there is either a pair of scissors or a pen pointing to the word which could suggest that this film is God related, also because this is the middle and central word, it does show some importance. However, in all of these screenshots no actual image of the characters have been shown, and all the shots have either been close ups or extreme close ups and the purpose of this is to build up suspense and tension for the audience to keep them guessing as to who this person is, who's hand is displayed in many of the screenshots and also, what they are doing.
