Pregunta Respuesta
What is a zygote ? The cell formed by the fusion of two gametes.
What is replication? The process of making copies of DNA.
What is the first step of replication? The strands of the double helix separate from each other.
Second step Nucleotides pair up with bases.
Third step Result is two indentical DNA molecules are formed.
What are chromatids? One of the strands of a chromosome following replication.
What is cell division? When cells divide or replicate when organisms grow.
What are the two types of cell division? Mitosis and meiosis.
What is mitosis? The cell division that produces two daughter cells identical to the parent cell.
What is meiosis? Cell division that produces gametes with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell.
What are the stages of mitosis? Interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis.
What is the diploid number? The number of chromosomes in body cells; two sets or 2n.
What is the haploid number? The number of chromosomes in gametes.
What are the situations in which cell division by mitosis will occur? Growth, asexual reproduction, tissue regeneration, tissue culture and engineering, wound and tissue repair.
What is asexual reproduction? When offspring is produced without any union of gametes.
What are examples of organisms that reproduce asexually? Candida, Volvox, Amoeba.
What is interphase? Chromosomes replicate to have two chromatids.
What is prophase? Replicated chromosomes and their chromatids become visible.
What is metaphase? Replicated chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell.
What is anaphase? The chromatids separate and move to opposite poles of the cell.
