Pregunta Respuesta
Hindley's Selfishness Part 1 Another aspect of Hindley's personality that is revealed by Duffy is her self-pity. When Hindley complains that she "was left to rot", Duffy is suggesting that Hindley feels sorry for herself.
Hindley's Selfishness Part 2 Ironically Hindley never expresses any sympathy for her victims or their families and Duffy purposefully avoids doing this to ensure we have a strong negative reaction towards Hindley.
Hindley's Selfishness Part 3 Duffy implies Hindley was egocentric. her constant use of the word "I" -which is repeated 38 times in the poem- makes the reader question whether or not Hindley genuinely has no heart and doesn't feel any sympathy whatsoever for her victims.
Hindley's Selfishness Part 4 Duffy has Hindley say that "nobody liked my hair, nobody liked how I spoke", which portrays a character unconcerned about what she has done, only bothering about how she is seen by others. Through this technique, Duffy is further ensuring that any sympathy the reader has for Hindley disintegrates.
