Pregunta Respuesta
cardiac output= heart rate x stroke volume
what is the autonomic nervous system? the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary activities such as breathing, digestion and heart rate.
what two nervous systems make up the autonomic nervous system? sympathetic and parasympathetic.
Where are chemoreceptors found? In the carotid arteries and the aorta
what are chemoreceptors? receptors that are sensitive to changes in pH.
where in the brain do the parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves originate? Medulla oblongata *parasympathetic = cardio-inhibitory centre *sympathetic=cardio-acceleratory centre
how is heart rate decreased in people with high blood pressure? *pressure receptors in the walls of the carotid arteries and the aorta detect an increase in blood pressure. *frequency of impulses from these receptors to the cardio-inhibitory centre in the medulla oblongata increase. *frequency of impulses via the parasympathetic nervous system to the SAN increase and heart rate is decreased.
