What is Mass Movement | Mass movement is the downslope movement of rock, soil or mud. Gravity and rainfall are usual trigger. |
What Is Rock Fall? | Sturdy rocks are prone to weathering (See Weathering flash card if unsure of types of weathering) like freeze-thaw which results in the rock losing contact with the cliff face and falls to the bottom of the cliff. |
What Causes A Cliff To Slide? | A slide happens when a section of soil or rock suddenly gives way and moves down a slope. The material moves as a single mass along a slippery zone. The slippery zone is often made up of wet sediment. |
What Is Slumping? | Slumping is the movement of material along a cliff (curved). It occurs where permeable rock e.g. gravel sits on impermeable rock e.g. clay. |
