Learning It is a conscious process. It is taught in a direct way. The grammatical rules are learned.
Acquisition It happens unconsciously. It requires a linguistic input.
Semanticity Words and sounds have meaning. Example: The velvet monkey alert call when spotting a leopard.
Arbitrariness There is no logical connection between the name and the thing it refers to. Words in different languages are different to refer to the same thing.
Displacement The language user can talk about things related to the present, past and future. Animals can only refer to inmediate needs.
Productivity New words and never-before-heard utterances can be created.
