Name 2 types of team and explain the difference. Multidisciplinary team - loose network, focus on referrals and communication. Separately organised. Interdisciplinary team - close group of professionals, focused on a single specialty i.e. stroke or palliative.
Do you know Katzenbach's description of an MDT? Katzenbach (1993) described an MDT as a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.
There are around 8 barriers to an effective MDT. Can you name them? Communication style not shared Bureaucratic processes - multiple referral documents Information sharing difficult Accountability Role duplication = confusion Leadership conflict Self interest Imbalance of power
Name 1 important document for MDT/IDT and what does it cover? Caldicott guidelines - covers information sharing. More relevant to MDT as IDT would have their own in-house documentation.
