Drainage Basin An area of land drained by a river and its tributaries.
Source The start of a river.
Mouth Where a river meets the sea.
Tributary A stream or small river that joins a larger river.
Watershed The boundary of a river basin. Usually highland.
Confluence The point where two rivers meet
Types of weathering 1.Physical weathering 2.Chemicle weathering 3.Biological weathering
Hydraulic action The pressure of the water being pushed against the banks and the bed of the river.
Corrosion/abrasion Particles (load) carried along the river rub and wear away at the rock on the beds and banks (like sandpaper).
Corrosion A chemical reaction between certain rock types (e.g. limestone) and the river water. The acid in the water wears the rock away.
Attrition The rocks and pebbles hit each other and break down into smaller, smoother pieces or wear away to form sand.
