Why were health care reforms needed in the USA? | . 46 million Americans not got health insurance (15.3%) . 16 million underinsured . 77 million 'baby boomers' are reaching retirement age putting strain on spending per capita- on state and national level . more than 40,000 unnecessary deaths due to lack of insurance |
What is Obamacare? | enables futher 32 million to access to health care in America was passed on 21/03/10 ( The Patient Protection and affordable health care) However was only passed by 7 votes causing controvesy |
What were the USA's reforms based on? | upon the NHS, which was introduced in 1948 |
What reforms are needed in the UK? | to become more efficient and meet challenges like lifestyle factors and aging population it cannot keep up with things such as new drugs and obecity |
What reforms are needed in the USA? | . there's no universal healthcare system, however there is medicare and medicad . some people do not have enough health coverage or aren't covered by their employer |
Why are changes in both the USA and UK similar? | . both have an aging population, costing more expense . neither system works efficiently, and both spending more money on unnecessary things |
Likewise, why are the changes needed in the USA and UK different? | UK needs to reform the NHS, yet USA would try harder to cover more people but doesn't allow everyone to health care like the UK |
What are the benefits of the NHS? | . everyone is covered . easy and 'free' access . core principle has basically stayed the same since 1948, however money is being spent ineffectively . to make changes it will cost £1.4 billion to save money in the long term |
