"Salad Bowl" Theory People of different cultures living in harmony
14th Ammendment All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
Government The governing body of a nation, state, or community
Autocracy A system of government by one person with absolute power
Oligarchy A small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution
Democracy A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives
Direct Democracy The power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives
Representative Democracy (a.k.a. Indirect Democracy) A form of government where the powers of the sovereignty are delegated to a body of men, elected from time to time, who exercise them for the benefit of the whole nation
