Plot | the main story line e.g Harry Potter was marked as the person to destroy Voldemort. He went through school being famous and losing lots of people that he would avenge whilst making the wizarding world a better place. |
Metaphor. | Says something is something else to add dramatic effect. e.g the curtain of night. |
Simile | Compares something to something else using like or as. e.g My heart was beating like a drum. |
Future tense | What is going to happen. |
Present tense | What is happening currently. |
Past Tense | What had already happened. |
Repeatition | A dramatic technique where main phrases or words are said more than once to make an impact. |
Anaphora | Words or phrases repeated in the same place in successive sentences. |
Chiasmum | Where a phrase is echoes in the opposite direction. e.g Let us never negotiate out of fear but let us never fear to negotiate. |
Personal anecdote. | Where the piece of text relates big ideas to individuals mainly used in speeches. e.g Poor blind Billy, who needs this healthcare reform to survive. |
