Proper Noun Objects that begin with a capital letter such as names.
Abstract Noun A noun that denotes an idea, emotion, feeling, quality or other abstract or intangible concept.
Concrete noun General items such as tables and chairs.
Collective Nouns A group e.g herd
Adjective A describing term that comes after a noun. e.g The bus was blue.
Pre-modifier A describing term that comes before a noun e.g the blue bus.
Dynamic verb An action.
Stative verb A state of being e.g want
Modal verb. express ideas such as possibility, intention, obligation and necessity. e.g could,would,should
Adverb Describes a verb. e.g quickly
Prepositions words which show the relationship between nouns and pronouns. they come in two types Place(on,by) and direction(to, from)
Coordinating Conjunctions. Joins two separate sentences together usually with "and".
Subordinating conjunctions Joins a subordinating clause to the main clause e.g He went home because of illness.
Mood Shows the attitude of the sentence
Character The object being talked about e.g Katniss Everdeen.
Language. How it is written.
Plot the main story line e.g Harry Potter was marked as the person to destroy Voldemort. He went through school being famous and losing lots of people that he would avenge whilst making the wizarding world a better place.
Metaphor. Says something is something else to add dramatic effect. e.g the curtain of night.
Simile Compares something to something else using like or as. e.g My heart was beating like a drum.
Future tense What is going to happen.
Present tense What is happening currently.
Past Tense What had already happened.
Repeatition A dramatic technique where main phrases or words are said more than once to make an impact.
Anaphora Words or phrases repeated in the same place in successive sentences.
Chiasmum Where a phrase is echoes in the opposite direction. e.g Let us never negotiate out of fear but let us never fear to negotiate.
Personal anecdote. Where the piece of text relates big ideas to individuals mainly used in speeches. e.g Poor blind Billy, who needs this healthcare reform to survive.
