Pregunta Respuesta
What is used as the standard measurement of relative masses? Carbon-12
Define relative isotopic mass The mass of an atom of an isotope, compared with one-twelfth of the mass of an atom of C-12
Define relative atomic mass The weighted mean mass of an atom of an element, compared with one-twelfth of the mass of an atom of C-12
How do you calculate the relative atomic mass of an element from given abundances of isotopes? Divide each percentage by 100 and multiply by its isotopic mass. Then add all these together.
What is the difference between relative molecular mass and relative formula mass? RMM is for simple molecules e.g. H20. RFM is for formula units of giant structures (ionic/giant covalent e.g. SiO2)
Define relative molecular/formula mass The weighted mean mass of a molecule/formula unit, compared with one-twelfth of the mass of an atom of C-12
How do you find relative molecular/formula mass? Add together the relative atomic masses of all atoms
How to calculate RAM using relative intensities of isotopes? Divide each intensity by sum of all intensities, then multiply by the corresponding relative isotopic mass. Add all of these together
