Resumen del Recurso

Pregunta Respuesta
Primary Energy Energy sources in raw form such as oil, natural gas or running water. They are used to produce secondary energy
Secondary Energy Manufactured sources of power such as electricity or petroleum
Resource Any part of the environment that can be used to meet human needs. Resources can be classed as renewable or non-renewable
Non - Renewable Resources Resources that will eventually run out
Renewable Resources Resources that will not run out and which are continuously being created. They include solar, wind, wave tide and hydroelectric power
Critical Resorces Sustainable energy resources from forests, plants and animal waste, which require prudent management
Non - Critical Resources Everlasting resources such as tides, waves, running water and solar panel
Flow The result of continuous flow like wind or tide
Finite resource Resources that are non - renewable
Stock There is a stock of each resource and when the stock is gone it is gone forever
Climate Change A change in regional or global climate patterns. This is due to increase CO2 in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels
Global Warming A gradient increase in the overall temperature of the Earths atmosphere
Sustainable Development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future generations
Reserve That part of the resource that is available for use
Recoverable The amount of mineral likely to be extracted for commercial use within a certain time period and at a certain level of technology
Speculative Deposits that may exist in a geological basin or terrain where no exploration has taken place
Fossil Fuels Oil, natural gas and coal, formed from plant and animal remains in previous geological periods
Energy Mix The different sources of energy used by households, industry and commerce, and in the electricity generation industry
Greenhouse Effects The way the atmosphere absorbs long wave radiation (uv) from the Earth and is warmed. Increasing due to the release of CO2
Trans National Corporation (TNC) Large companies that operate in more than one country
Micro - Hydro Power Micro - Hydro power is hydro electric power but on a much smaller scale. It is used by smaller towns/villages to provide a sufficient amount of electricity which uses local resources and labour
