Kate - Found no way to move on after the death of Larry. Chose to realign her entire world view around Larry's death. -Larry's continued existence justifies the existence of God, while Larry's existence proves Larry couldn't have been killed.
Ann -Doesn't deny her loss. -Chooses to cope with tumult war brought her = gets back in touch with people from her childhood.
Frank -Not called up for draft. -Didn't care enough to lie about his age. Only male character who's actions in the war were never discussed. -Doesn't fit into post war society where people are defined by their role in the war. -Other characters hold subconscious resentment against him because he hasn't done his part.
Keller -Profited from the war and factory has grown considerably. -Established himself as a pillar of the community. -Post war = he worries he will no longer be seen as a valued member.
Chris and George -Completely changed. -Difficulties trying to fit into their old lives. Although Chris's aspirations for a different life may cause friction with his parents it shows how hsi expectations have expanded.
George -Now highly educated = funded by US gov. Under the GI Bill = funding for veterans to pursue professional qualifications.
