Transmission	Through contaminated food (can incubate for 7-14 days)
Symptoms	Fever (20% mortalility) and complications- ulcers, meningitis
Adherence to cells	Type III Secretory system
Macrophage Invasion	Used to enter lymph, where it can enter the blood
Primary Bacteraemia	Where s.typhi enter the blood to infect other organs (i.e. the Gall Bladder)
Secondary Bacteremia	Where bacteria leave the organs they have colonies to enter the blood again
Cause of Symptoms	Secondary Bacteremia
Cause of Carrier	Bacteria have colonise the gall bladder but no symptoms are produced
Salmonella Pathogenicity Island	Allows s.typhi to avoid Toll Like Receptors
V.I	Capsule protein that protects it from TLR4
TV.I	Inhibits flagelling expression, that protects from TLR5
S. typhi Resistance in the Gall Bladder	Can bind to gall stones, forming a biofilm and preventing antibiotic removal
Intracellular Multiplication	Hides in the gall bladder epithelium and multiplies
Treatment	Antibiotics (and possible gall bladder removal)
