Colour renderings These show surface materials or finishes. They can be produced on 3D CAD packages or by using spirit-based marker pens and black and white pencils. Usually, light and tone are added to give the drawings realism
Perspective drawings These produce realistic 3D drawings of products. They can either be one-point or two-point perspective and can be used to show products from a variety of viewing angles
Block models This refers to models made from model board, MDF, styrofoam or other suitable materials. The material used would be shaped and machined into the form of the designed product, and then sprayed to give a realistic finish. To add to the effect genuine components may be added. This method may be used by designers of electrical products such as kettles or hairdryers in order to test ergonomics or to use as a presentation aid for evaluation.
Full size mock ups Designers would often make full size mock ups to test ergonomics or the function of prototype components.
Exploded views These are 3d drawings to show how a product or component part of a product is assembled. They are used in instruction manuals for customers or assembly line workers to assist assembly at point of manufacture. They are normally drawn in line form only and may be accompanied by assembly notes or a key using letters or numbers to denote sequence of assembly
