What does Line refer to when it comes to being a formal element of Art? Line is the continuous mark made on a surface by a moving point.
Line can be expressed in three ways, which ways are these? It can be two-dimensional (a pencil mark on paper), it can be three-dimensional (e.g. wire) or it can be implied (the edge of a shape or form).
What was the earliest form of writing? Pictographs or picture writing.
What is an Outline? An Outline is a line that joins itself to create a shape. (Remember that the lines are the same thickness throughout)
What are Contour Lines? Contour Lines define edges. They also define the edges of shapes within a form.
Lines can express... ... different qualities and emotions.
Horizontal lines create... ... feelings of peace and calm.
Vertical lines create... ... feelings of strength and power.
Diagonal lines create... ... feelings of movement and restlessness.
