    1. Grameen Bank launched in the 70's by Mohamed Yunus.
      1. Formation of groups of borrowers.
        1. Solidarity & peer pressure & responsibilty in paying loans back
        2. In Bangladesh, Grameen also functions as a savings bank & has projects in areas like telecoms & solar energy (ploughing money back into local needs).
          1. Grameen America.
            1. Offers loans from US$500 to US$3000.
              1. A feeling that this type of lending doesn't work in USA - you can't just load up a cart and go selling - it affects welfare payments and healthcare
          2. Target women in many countries to promote income generating capabilities.
            1. One measure to promote livelihood & reduce poverty.
              1. Offer loans to poor people who can't get credit for business ventures - low interest.
