                          • - Fundamental aspect of a totalitarian regime - Dictator that control every person under regime  - In a position of high power + trust (full control over the masses) - Is the 'saviour' of the people

                            Nota:

                            • - Illiterate + impoverished believe  every lie of the Party  - To control masses party ensures they are incapable of 'consciousness' - Live in poor living conditions to ensure they are coherent of anything that occurs in the Inner Party 
                            1. Parsons

                              Nota:

                              • - Respresents the model mindset of a Party member - Parson's actions, thoughts and responses show how malleable the human mind is + the control of such regimes - He would rather be told what to think than think for himself
                              1. Party Children

                                Nota:

                                • - Next generation are made perfect replicas of the Party's ideals - Encourages rebellious nature of children for their own benefit (exposing those who are wrong) - Trained to be image of the Party

                                  Nota:

                                  • - The Angkar are the all powerful leaders over the masses - Pol Pot has an omnipotent power that make him responsible for everything

                                            Nota:

                                            • "The most favorable moment to seize a man and influence him is when he is alone in the masses" - When he sacrifices Julia to save himself he loses the love he feels for her and becomes all alone - At this point he succumbs to the power of Big Brother

                                              • -Represents the manipulation tactics employed by the Party - Uses cruelty + torture to control individuals mentally (mind control)

                                                • - Reason over emotion - Poses threat to collective mass due to high intelligence & acute ability to understand the fundamental aspects of language control used by the Party
