Resumen del Recurso
M.S.Silk
GODS
Zeus intervenes on both sides with little partiality.
A&A's quarrel contrasts with Z&H's quarrel, signifying mortality vs. immortality.
Heroes will risk their lives for glory which is much more respectable than gods who have nothing to lose.
Gods are central in setting mortal scenes in high relief. They are comic and trivial.
Gods interest in heroic endeavour guarantees it's splendour.
Though they interfere, the heroes still act with free will.
PLOT
Opposites created by similes. Gives us a glimpse of the world of peace.
Homer prevents all of the deaths to be emotive and instead makes them impersonal and objective. Prevents the poem from being dominated by emotion.
It's not a tragedy. It shows players on a filed not characters.
Book 23 is important. Shows the characters as their 'real' selves.
MORTAL CHARACTERS
The Trojans are given all the dignity of the defeated. Apart from more Trojans dying, there is a balance of status of the two sides.
Characters are defined by their status. Agamemnon is king of men and behaves like a king first and foremost.
Characters are defined by particular traits. They are not well rounded.
Characters are static. Characters do not develop after experiences. Achilles is the only character which is capable of change.
Achilles is an outsider.
Book 24 Achilles shows a heightened form of humanity.
Achilles withdraws from the battle in heroic protest.
Paris charmed Helen away from Greece by his sexuality.
WOMEN
Hecabe's importance is summed up by her roles as mother and wife.
