Agricultural Change
1. Technology improves yields and saves labour
2. Workers are freed for industry therefore more economic growth
3. Less need for labour
4. Smaller families are more desirable
Urbanisation
1. Rural to urban migration
2. People in poorer countries believe cities to have opportunities
3. Better education for children
4. Child labour is less valued in cities than in rural areas
Emancipation
1. As economies become developed, opportunities for girls improve
2. Larger workforce required
3. Women must participate in paid work outside of home
4. Good living standards require 2 incomes
5. Prejudice against women decreases
6. Less time caring for children + less maternity leave > larger commitment to work
Education
1. Levels of academic achievement improve > better living standards
2. Children become an economic disadvantage
3. Fewer children means parents can focus on opportunities for the children they do have
4. In poorer countries children need education in life
