      1. Increase in life expectancy – grandparents alive for longer & more physically fit
        1. More people living longer = increase in need for family support.
          1. Grandparents provide childcare for grandchildren.
            1. Increase in lone parents who rely on support from own parents.
      2. Why less inTRAgenerational contact?
        1. Effect of divorce - less contact with family members.
          1. Falling fertility rates = fewer sibilings – knock on effect
            1. Smaller family size = more geographical mobility = less contact between siblings & their children.
