Pyramids of Biomass and Numbers
  1. Each bar on pyramid shows the mass of living material at that stage.
    1. Biomass pyramid are always in a pyramid shape because biomass is lost at each stage in the food chain.
      1. To construct a biomass pyramid you need the dry biomass of the organism
        1. This may be difficult as you might have to kill organisms.
        2. Pyramid of numbers shows the number of organisms at that stage of the food chain- not their mass.
