                  1. Very poor hygiene
                    1. Bad healthcare (lack of technology)
                      1. Average life expectancy is very low
                        1. Wide-spread diseases
                          1. Lack of clean water
                            1. Famine
                              1. War
                              2. Birth rate and death rate are both high anfd fluctuating
                                1. Examples of stage one may be tribes and parts of Ethiopia
                                  1. Typical of Britain in the 18th century
                                    1. Total population low, increasing slowly
                                    2. Stage Two
                                      1. Falling death rate because
                                        1. Healthcare is improving dramatically and quickly
                                          1. Improved hygiene
                                            1. Improved sanitation
                                              1. Improved food production and storage
                                                1. Improved transportation
                                                  1. Means people can reach hospitals quicker
                                                    1. Food can be transported more easily
                                                    2. Falling infant mortality rate
                                                    3. Death rate has fallen but birth rate is still high
                                                      1. Examples would be Bangladesh, India and Nigeria
                                                        1. Typical of Britain in the 19th century
                                                          1. Total population increasing massively
                                                          2. Stage Three
                                                            1. Birth rate starts to fall
                                                              1. Death rate continues falling
                                                                1. Total population is still increasing
                                                                  1. Reasons for falling birth rate
                                                                    1. Family planning becoming more common
                                                                      1. Lower infant mortality rate
                                                                        1. Increased mechanization means less workers are needed
                                                                          1. Means children are no longer future sources of income
                                                                          2. Increased standard of living

                                                                            2. Examples include China and Brazil
