Parts of a computer

1. Fetch, decode execute

   Nota:

   • CPU fetches the top instruction and passes it on to the decoder. It is decoded and carried out
2. Processor speed

   Nota:

   • 1 hertz is one instruction carried out a second

1. ROM

   Nota:

   • Read only memory. It holds the program needed for switching on the computer (bootstrap/BIOS). It stores data permanently.  It checks if you've got a keyboard. If you haven't it says to press F5.

1. RAM

   Nota:

   • Random access memory. It holds the data only while it is powered. Volatile

• Connects all the components

1. Fan

   Nota:

   • Cools all the components that might get hot
2. Drive
   1. Floppy drive

      Nota:

      • Reads and writes information stored on floppy discs Removable storage
   2. Optical drive

      Nota:

      • Reads and writes information stored on compact discs
   3. Hard disk drive

      Nota:

      • Permanent memory where most things are stored. Secondary storage Non-volatlle
