Madame Ratignolle
1. "the embodiment of every womanly grace and charm"
  1. Essentially the "perfect" mother-women
2. Has more devotion for her children than Edna
  1. She prepares to make winter clothes for her children during summer
3. Like Creole women, she openly speaks of her reproductive experiences
  1. Edna is shocked & blushes from this type of speech
Edna's Boys
1. Edna's children sort of benefited from Edna's calmness with them
  1. Other children quickly run to their mothers for safety & comfort
  2. If the boys fall while playing, instead of running to their mother, they pick themselves up & continue
