  1. relatively rare, cause unknown, prognosis not optimistic
    1. edema initially (taut, smooth & shiny skin), then elasticity & movement loss, eventual tissue degeneration and fx loss (occurs in all body systems, organs, blood vessels)
      1. CREST - Calcinosis, Raynaud's phenomenon (discolored fingers/toes from excessive decr blood flow), Esophageal hardening/dysfx, Sclerodactyly, Telangiectasia (capillary dilation forms vascular lesion)
        1. treatment/meds - Ca channel blockers and anitHTN meds help Raynaud's, antiinfl. meds
