strong and influencing currency which has been a key factor in dominating over other countries
POLITICAL
Strong capitalist society with a constitutional republic
Strong allies with western Europe along with several East Asian countries
Permanent seat on UN security council
GEOGRAPHICAL
4th largest country in terms of land area
bordered by 4 countries
EVIDENCE?
Economic Power - number of global brands and their influence over global markets
Military Power - they have invaded several countries and been successful (Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam)
Cultural Power - influence they have on hundreds of countries through media like music and film (Hollywood, Colombia records)
IMPLICATIONS OF THEIR POWER?
Threat to others due to large military - even Russia wouldn't attack USA due to number of active troops
Oil reserves - they have accessible oil - large reserves. More energy secure.
TNCs and influence over global markets creates dominance and makes them key investors
IS THE USA'S POWER DECLINING?
YES?
Emerging powers such as China, India, BRICs challenge power of USA. Could overtake in terms of population, GDP or active troops
Largest TNCs based in USA could begin to fall and could rise in the BRICs
NO?
Influence may lessen but will not hugely decline as it is active and powerful enough to sustain power through TNCs and sturdy GDP
Continued development - new oil reserves? further patent filings?
