            2. Nose
              1. Smell receptors - sensitive to chemical stimuli
              2. Tongue
                1. Taste receptors

                3. Central nervous system
                  1. Sensory neurones
                    1. Nerve cells carry signals as electrical impulses from the receptors in the sense organs to the CNS
                    2. Motor neurone
                      1. Nerve cells carry signals from the CNS to the effector muscles or glands
                      2. Relay neurones
                        1. Nerve cells carry signals from sensory neurones to motor neurones
                        2. Effector
                          1. Muscles and glands
                            1. Muscles contract in response to a nerve impulse
                              1. Glands secrete hormones
                            2. Where all the information from sense organs are sent and where reflexes and actions are coordinated
                              1. Neurones transmit information as electrical impulses quickly to and from the CNS
                                1. Instructions from CNS are sent to effectors which respond
                              2. Brain and spinal cord only
                              3. Synapses
                                1. Connection between two neurones
                                  1. Nerve signal is transferred by chemicals which diffuse across the gap
                                2. Reflexes
                                  1. Prevent injury
                                    1. Automatic responses to certain stimuli
                                      1. Eg. bright lights make your pupils automatically get smaller for less light to enter
                                    2. Reflex arc
                                      1. Stimulus is detected by receptors, impulses are sent along a sensory neurone to the CNS
                                        1. When impulses reach a synapse between the sensory and a relay, they trigger chemicals to be released - these cause impusles to be sent along the relay
                                          1. When impulses reach a synapse between the relay and motor, chemicals are released and impulses are sent along the motor
                                            1. Impulses travel along the motor to the effector
                                              1. Muscle then contracts
