Natural/Artificial Perfumes
Esters are used as perfumes because they smell nice.
Esters are common in nature. Fruity and flowery smells contain natural esters
Esters can also be manufactured synthetically to be used as perfumes
Esters are made by heating an acid with an alcohol
ACID + ALCOHOL->ESTER + WATER
Properties of a Perfume
Easily Evaporates
or else perfume particles wouldn't be able to reach your nose.
Non-Toxic
it mustn't seep through your skin and poison you
Doesn't irratate the skin
or else you couldn't apply it directly onto you
Insoluble in water
it would wash off too easily otherwise
New products have to be tested
Products have to be tested thoroughly to make sure they are safe to use.
Some tests are carried out on animals
Controversial
Some people think it's wrong to cause suffering to animals just to test cosmetic's safety
Banned in EU
some think this is ok. so it doesn't harm Humans
