      Nota:

      • Along the south coast of America but it badly effected New Orleans and Louisiana 
      1. Death toll

        Nota:

        • 12,000 people died 
        1. New Orleans
          1. Poverty

            Nota:

            • New Orleans had a 20% poverty rate at the time  20% of people had no form of transport so couldn't evacuate
            1. floodwater

              Nota:

              • 80% of New Orleans was under flood water  the Levees kept the flood water inside New Orleans  an average house was under 6-9 ft of water 
            2. crime rate

              Nota:

              • the crime rate increased as 249 officers abandoned their posts during the flood looting, theft, murder and rape all increased 
              1. the Super Dome

                Nota:

                • those who didn't evacuate where encouraged to take refuge in the Superdome  10,000 people came at first but that number doubled people were stuck there for 3 days 
                1. crime rate

                  Nota:

                  • 6 dead bodies where found in the super dome 1 was classified as a homicde 
                2. the Convention centre

                  Nota:

                  • 25,000 people gathered at a convention centre for food, shelter and help
                  1. Relief

                    Nota:

                    • 500,000 rescues where made  ordinary people decided to help with the rescues and officers went door to door looking for survivors 18 million packaged meals where handed out 
                    1. Storm category

                      Nota:

                      • Hurricane Katrina started as a category 1 storm but as it moved towards the south coast it quickly became a category 5 
                      1. prediction

                        Nota:

                        • the storm was mapped and its course was predicted so people were given opportunity to evacuate and prepare for its arrival
