Active Transport
  1. Unlike Diffusion

    Adjunto:

    1. Diffusion = High concentration to low concentration
      1. Along a concentration gradient
      2. Low concentration to high concentration
        1. Against a concentration gradient
      3. Used to transport dissolved molecules from a low concentration to a high concentration
        1. Against the concentration gradient
        2. Requires energy from respiration
          1. Protein carriers
            1. Responsible for carrying specific molecules through a cell membrane into a cell
              1. Binding site, allows molecules to bind to outside of membrane
                1. Energy from respiration changes the shape of the protein
                  1. Releases the substance onto the other side of the membrane
                2. Examples from nature:
                  1. Root hair cells
                    1. Need to absorb ions (like nitrates) from soil for nutrients
                    2. Small intestine villi cells
                      1. Alongside diffusion, maximises absorption of glucose and other substances
