Holderness coast, cliff collapse and coastal management
  1. the coastline is 61km long
    1. 1.8 m of land is lost every year
      1. reasons for rapid erosion
        1. the rock type is easily eroded as it is boulder clay
          1. naturally narrow beaches- the narrower the beach the more power a wave has
            1. groynes have been built further up in Mappleton
              1. meaning that sediment isn't washed further down so the coast eroded's more easily
              2. they face the prevailing wind which means the waves are more powerful
              3. impact on peoples lives
                1. homes near the cliffs are at risk
                  1. property prices have fallen
                    1. roads have fallen off the cliff so access has become difficult
                      1. businesses are at risk from erosion
                        1. so people lose their jobs
                      2. environmental impact
                        1. SSSI's are threatened
                          1. lagoons destroyed by salt water
