• From the end of WWII to 1980 the Republican coalition was dominated by Liberal Republicans
• But there were always tensions between them and the Traditional Conservatists.
• It is the foreign policy and the will to beat the Democrats on the national level that kept them together.

3. Neo-Conservatists
   1. Similar to Traditional Conservatists
   2. Primarly concerned about foreign policy
4. Social/Ultra Conservatists
   1. Small govt
   2. Balanced budget
   3. Very concerned about social problems
      1. NO to abortion
      2. Against flag-burning
      3. YES for prayers in public schools
5. Libertarians
   1. Small & weak central govt
   2. Laissez-faire in social, economic & foreign policy.
   3. Against programms that expand govt powers (NSA)

1. For women, minorities, gay, lesbian, transgendered etc.
