What are organelles? | Structures suspended in the cytoplasm that carry out a particular function |
What is the cytoplasm? | A thick fluid within the cell in which the organelles are suspended in |
What are inclusions? | Chemical substances that are not apart of the cell but are found within the cytoplasm |
What is the cell membrane? | An outer boundary which protects the cell and determines what can/cannot enter the cell |
What is cytosol? | The liquid part of the cytoplasm |
What is the function of the Golgi Body? | They modify proteins and package them in vesicles for secretion from the cell |
What is the function of the mitochondria? | Mitochondria release energy for the cell through cellular respiration |
What is the function of the nucleus? | Contains genetic material (DNA) and has nuclear pores through which large molecules can pass |
What is the function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum? | Provides a surface on which chemical reactions can occur |
What is the function of ribosomes? | Amino acids are joined together at the ribosomes to make proteins |
What is cilia? | Short an numerous hair-like projections that allow for cell movement in some cells |
What is flagella? | Long, singular or double projections which allow movement of certain cells e.g. Tail of sperm |
