Question Answer
What are the three simple molecules of sugar? Monosaccharides Glucose Galactose Fructose
Which are the three Disaccharides formed by the monosaccharides mentioned above? Glucose + Glucose = Maltose Glucose + Galactose = Lactose Glucose + Fructose = Sucrose
Reducing Sugars Glucose Galactose Fructose Lactose Maltose
Non Reducing Sugar Sucrose
Test for Reducing Sugars Add Benedicts solution. Heat it to 95 C. A coloured precipitate will form if reducing sugars are persent.
Test for Non Reducing Sugars Take the sample in a test tube, add some HCl heat for 1 minute. Add Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, to neutralize it. Carry out the benedicts test for Reducing sugar.
