Question Answer
Science Test - Revision FORCES
Q1) What is a force? A force is a push, pull or twist motion applied on an object or person.
Q2) Force is measured in units called: Newtons
Q3) Describe the difference between mass and weight Mass is the capacity of a person measured in kg or g. Weight is the amount of matter contained in a person measured in Newtons.
Q4) Balanced forces act on objects that are: A & B
Q5) Friction acts: Whether an object is moving or not.
Q6) The size or magnitude of a frictional force depends on: The forces pushing the surfaces together & the roughness of the contact surfaces.
Q7) List 4 ways to reduce friction: 1. Lubricant 2. Wheels 3. Smoother surface 4. Smaller surface area
Q8) State whether the forces are balanced in this diagram. Explain your answer using data. As the two cats both have a mass of 200 Newtons, that results in balanced forces.
Q9) How may laws of motion are there? 3
Q10) What are the three laws of motion? 1. Inertia - An object will stay in motion or stationary unless acted on by an unbalanced force. 2. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the amount of force needed to accelerate or decelerate the object. 3. For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.
Q11) Explain why when this motorbike pulls the table cloth, the objects stay on the table and do not fall and brake on the ground According to Newton's First Law of Motion (inertia), an object wall stay in motion or stationary unless acted on by an unbalanced force. As the motor bike is applying an unbalanced force on the table cloth, the cloth would move. However it didn't apply a force onto the objects which is why they don't break.
