Distinguish between promotional and sectional pressure groups - Promotional groups seek to advance ideas, ideals political causes. Sectional groups aim to advance or defend interests. - Promotional groups are concerned with wellbeing of society. Sectional groups concerned with well being of own members. - Promotional groups have open membership. Sectional groups are restricted to certain occupations/positions. Promotional groups: Greenpeace, Oxfam Sectional groups: NUT, CBI
What is meant by consensus politics? Consensus is a general agreement. Consensus politics is a when major political parties share similar or the same goals and principles, but does not always rule out all forms of disagreement.
Distinguish between a mandate and a manifesto A manifesto is a document published by a political party running up to an election. It outlines the policies the party would implement if elected. A mandate is an instruction or command that gives authority to a person or body to act in a particular way. A popular/electoral mandate gives the winning party control of the legislature, the authority to carry out its promises.
