Question Answer
What is the cell theory? BASIC UNIT of structure and function of all living organisms is the CELL. All CELLS ARISE from pre-exsisting cells
what is a cell? A bag in which chemistry of life is allowed to occur.
what is a cell membrane? also referred to as plasma membrane? thin membrane about 7 nm (diameter) surrounds cell CONTROLS EXCHANGE of materials inisde between cell and its environment
What is the nucleus? the part of the cell which CONTROLS all of its ACTIVITY
what is a nucleus made up of? X') NUCLEOLUS- manufacture ribosomes NUCLEAR ENVELOPE- surrounds nucleus CHROMATIN- mass of loosely coiled thread (coils to form chromosomes)
What is the cytoplasm? an aqueous material forming a jelly-like consistency
What are organelle? Small structures found within a cell cytoplasm or small organs of a cell Functional and structurally distict part of a cell.
What is compartmentalisation? The surrounding of organelle by their membranes to sepreate activity from their surrounding.
What is division of labour? The sharing of work between specialised organelle.
What organelle can be found in an animal cell but not a plant cell? .-. CENTRIOLES - they lie at right angles to each other
What organelle are present in plant cells but not in a n animal? CHLOROPLAST - carry out photosynthesis PERMANENT VACUOLES - a solution which contains pigments, enzymes , sugars and organic compund
