What is the application layer? The application layer selects the correct protocol to use depending on which application you are using and what you are trying to do.
What is the transport layer? The transport layer creates the connection between two computers or 'hosts',the computers agree the size of the packets they will send and receive.
What is the data link layer? The data link layer is the physical hardware that connects two hosts.
What is the network layer? The network layer is where the routers operate and destination addresses are written onto the packets ready for transmission.
What is TCP/IP? TCP/IP is the protocol that breaks up messages sent over the internet into small chunks called packets,reassembles the packets at the other end,detects errors,resends lost messages and routes the individual packets.
What is in the TCP/IP stack? There are four layers in the TCP/IP stack the application layer,the transport layer the network layer and the data link layer.
How does email work? Mail servers pass on or store emails until they are collected and the user logs on to the server to collect mail.
What is POP and IMAP? POP and IMAP are mail retrieval protocols that fetch message data and attachments from your remote mail server?
What is SMTP? SMTP or simple mail transfer protocol is an email protocol used for transferring email between remote email servers.
What is a protocol? A protocol is a set of rules on how computers communicate with one another.
What is HTTP? HTTP(hypertext transfer protocol) is the protocol used for accessing and receiving web pages in the form of HTML files on the internet.
What is HTTPS? HTTPS is a secure protocol that encrypts the information so that it cannot be understood if it is hacked.
What are audit trails? Audit trails are logs that record every time a user accesses the system,the time and date along wit their actions.
