Define the terms: - Food insecurity -Food security - Food insecurity: Being without access to a quantity of affordable, nutritious food. -Food security: Having access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food at all times in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Define the terms: - Water insecurity - Water security - Water insecurity: Water availability not being enough to ensure the population of an area in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. -Water security: Water availability being enough for an acceptable standard and quality of health, livelihoods and production.
Define the term "food miles". The distance food has travelled from where it was produced to where it's sold.
Define "HICs" and "LICs". Give examples of both. HIC: High Income Country e.g. United Kingdom, Canada. LIC: Low Income Country e.g. Kenya, Afghanistan.
Define: - Biofuels Fuels produced from plant materials.
Define malnutrition Malnutrition - A lack of proper nutrition in the body caused by not eating enough, not eating the right things etc.
Define urbanisation. Urbanisation - An increase of proportion of people living in urban areas compared to rural areas.
Define "urban farming" The growing of fruits, herbs and vegetables in towns and cities, a process that is accompanied by many other activities i.e. processing and delivering food.
Explain the greenhouse affect. 1) Electromagnetic radiation at most wavelengths from the Sun pass through the Earth's atmosphere. 2) The Earth absorbs radiation with short wavelengths as long wavelengths are infrared. 3) Infrared radiation is partially absorbed by greenhouse gases. 4) The atmosphere warms up.
