What is a Protagonist and an example of one? | The protagonist is the main character that the story follows. Ex: Kirito from SAO, Shrek from Shrek, Spongebob. |
What is an Antagonist and an example of one? | The character in conflict with the protagonist, not necessarily bad. Ex: Lord Farquaad from Shrek, that creepy guy from SAO, Squidward. |
What is a "Round" character like and an example of one? | We know all about round characters, and they are often realistic. Ex: Harry Potter, Ponyboy, |
What is a "Flat" character and an example of one? | A character we don't know much about, or our knowledge of them is limited to one side. Ex: Indiana Jones, Plankton, James Bond. |
What is a "Dynamic" character and an example of one? | A character that changes over time. Ex: Dally, Shrek, Anakin Skywalker. |
What is a "Static" character and an example of one? | A character that doesn't change over the course of the story. Ex: Han Solo, Donkey from Shrek. |
What is "point of view"? | Point of view is the perspective (view) from which the story is told. |
Who is the "narrator"? | The person telling the story. |
Describe the "First Person" point of view. | First Person is the point of view in the character's perspective. This would use words like "I" and include the character's emotions in their point of view. Ex: The Outsiders in Ponyboy's POV |
Describe the "Third Person Limited" point of view. | This point of view has a narrator that doesn't know everything about the protagonist, like their emotions or thoughts. The narrator has limited knowledge. Ex: Lord of the Rings |
Describe the 'Third Person Omniscient" point of view. | Sort of like a "God" narrator, because the narrator knows everything about the protagonist, including their feelings. Ex: The book "The Alchemyst" |
What is a conflict? | A conflict is a clash or struggle between opposing characters or forces, usually the protagonist and something or someone else. |

What is "Atmosphere/Mood" and an example of it? | The emotional setting of the story; how the story makes the reader feel. Ex: Your Lie in April makes you feel sad. |
What is "Foreshadowing" and an example of it? | Hints or clues about what is going to happen later in the story. Ex: Operation Survival (turtle story) "Protective armor that helped him camouflage" foreshadows him being a turtle. |
What is a "Flashback" and an example of it? | When a character thinks back to an event that occurred before the story began. Ex: The Outsiders is all a flashback that Ponyboy is writing for his English teacher. |
What is "Suspense" and an example of it? | anxiety or apprehension resulting from an uncertain, undecided, or mysterious situation. Ex: The Outsiders court scene. |
