Question Answer
What is Density? A measure of the mass per unit volume of a substance.
What does density measure? Density measures grams and centimeter cubed.
Which is more denser stones or feathers? Stones are because if you drop it, the stone will fall straight down and the feather will float.
Which is more denser between liquids and solids of the same substance? Solids because when they are placed in liquids they usually sink.
What happens to the density of solids and liquids when they are heated? When they are heated the particles in a solid and liquid move a little further apart, causing the substance to expand slightly.
What does density depend on? Density depends on the amount of substance and the space it takes up and so its units includes the units of mass and volume.
What happens to a gas when they are heated? When a gas is heated the particles spread further apart, lowering its density even more.
When does smoke rise? Smoke rises when hot air is less than cold air and will rise above it
Why does a hot air balloon rise? The over-all density of a hot air balloon is less than the density of the air balloon is less than the density of the air.
What is density measured in? Density is measured in grams and per centimeter cubed.
What is mass? Mass measures how much matter in a substance.
What units are used to measure mass? They are grams, kilograms and tones
What does density depend on? It depends on volume.
What is volume? Volume measures how much space is occupied by a substance.
What is the formula for density?
What is volume measured in? It is ML and L
Which items will float and sink and give examples?
How does water act above 4 degrees Celsius? It expands when cools and contact when heated.
What term best describes( how much matter is in a object)? Mass
What term best describes( the quantity measured in mL)? Volume
