Chernobyl 1986	worst power plant disaster in history. began with a "safety test" which went wrong. This led to the bursting of pipes. and a steam explosion blew off the top of the reactor. took days to put the fire out. Today it is enclosed in a concrete and steel shell. still has molten and highly radioactive material inside. the final reactor was shut down in 2000. wont be safe to live by for 20,000 years.
Fukushima Daiiachi	Earthquake and tsunami. Six boiling water reactors(not PWS) of which were operating at the time. All were automatically shut down during this time(takes a long time) emergency generators powering the cooling systems were destroyed during the tsunami. All three reactors experienced a full meltdown. Hydrogen gas explosions blew apart secondary containment structures which stored spent fuel rods. will take years to recover.
explain Breeder reactors describe plutonium	turns non-fissionable U235 into plutonium, which is fissionable. Makes more plutonium than U235 is used. Very dangerous because it is less stable(easier for a meltdown) Liquid sodium is used as a coolant because there can be an explosion with a presence of oxygen. pipes and wells break more easily(must use stainless steel;difficult to weld) plutonium is radioactive, long half life, terrorists can make an A-bomb.
